Landslide kills one; security personnel mobilized for rescue

Biratnagar, August 12: Landslide resulted in the death of a woman and 19 cattle in Morang.
According to the Eastern Regional Police Office, Gopimaya Tamang, 37, lost her life when the landslide occurred at Letang Municipality-1, Malbanse buried her.
The landslide triggered by incessant rain had swept away two houses of the settlement some 100 metres downward. The dead body was recovered from the debris of landslide.
Landslide had taken away a house and a shed of Rajendra Chemjong at Letang-6, Lamitar. It killed three cows, three oxen, six goats and six hens and caused damages to five kaththa land of Chemjong.
Likewise, the landslide had triggered damages to the corrugated tin house of Khagendra Silwal of the same area, police shared.
The Letang Area Police Office has mobilized security personnel to rescue the landslide-hit people.
Meanwhile, rain was continuous in Morang till 4.00 pm today. Almost all settlements at 17 local levels of Morang have been inundated. It has also crumbled road section in some areas. The vehicular movement has come to a complete halt.
Over 4,000 security personnel have been mobilized for the rescue of landslide and flood affected people, according to the Eastern Regional Police Office.
