Election system needs to be accommodative: Chairman Dahal

Kathmandu – Chairman of the CPN (Maoist-Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reiterated that time has come to advocate reforms in election system because the recent experience has showed that only the ‘people with money’ are sure to get elected.

An accommodative election system would ensure the opportunity for all classes and regions to get elected, he said, adding that changed election system was imperative to guarantee participation and victory of poor and suppressed.

During an orientation programme his party organized for leaders of province no 3, Chairman Dahal argued that nearly 40 to 50 million rupees was spent to win in a rural municipality. It is not a joke. “”It means those unable to manage a square of meal are always unable to win election despite having confidence and leadership,”” he underscored.

According to him, only fully proportional election could curb the financial irregularities that surface in election.

Similarly, Chairman Dahal opined that all Maoist party splinters should be unified to respect people’s aspiration reflected through election.

He also pointed out the ideological ambiguity and organizational disarray enfeebling the party.

The Maoist Centre Chairman further said some political forces were trying to play down national strength in the name of nationality, and of pahade and Madhesi.
