PM Oli holds meeting with foreign dignitaries including ex-Indian PM

Kathmandu, Dec 2 : Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held meetings with foreign dignitaries including heads of the states and governments who have arrived Nepal in course of attending the Asia Pacific Summit.  

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and visiting former Prime Minister of India H.D. Deve Gowda held a courtesy meeting at Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu on Saturday evening. 

 During the meeting, the leader duo had discussed the matters on further strengthening mutual relations between Nepal and India, and enhancing mutual benefits, said Prime Minister’s foreign advisor Dr Rajan Bhattarai. The meeting also focused on the water resources partnership, the Mahakali treaty and the implementation of the Pancheshwor Project, he said. Likewise, the two leaders discussed on the negative impacts of climate change and also how the two countries could devise coordinated climate actions to lessen its adverse consequences. During the meeting, they said that the bilateral relations between Nepal and India have improved than in the past, shared Bhattarai. On the occasion, the two leaders also underlined the need for both the countries to work keeping citizens’ welfare at the centre in coming days. Likewise, the two leaders discussed on the negative impacts of climate change and also how the two countries could devise coordinated climate actions to lessen negative consequences. During the meeting, they said that the bilateral relations between Nepal and India have improved than in the past, shared Bhattarai. On the occasion, the two leaders also underlined the need for both the countries to work keeping citizens’ welfare at the centre in coming days. Likewise, former Vice-President of Iran Hassan Ghafourifard held a courtesy call on Prime Minister Oli today Bhattarai informed that the two leaders held discussion on shared interests and mutual benefits for Nepal and Iran. They held a crucial discussion on how to make ICAP effective and drive the forum in a further active manner, Bhattarai added. Likewise, Samoa Head of State Vaaleto’a Sualauvi II Tuimalealiifano and his spouse also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Oli. During the meeting, the two discussed the ways to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Dr Bhattarai said that important discussions were held to work together to reduce the problems seen by snowmelt in the Himalayas and in the riverside caused due to climate change. Likewise, he praised the warm hospitality offered by the government of Nepal and shared to implement the experiences learnt here in his country. The two leaders also shared ideas to make common voices in the United Nations and other international forums. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli and President of Nauru Baron Divavesi Waqa also held discussions on Saturday itself. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed about establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries and making common views on climate changes in the international forums. Bhattarai said that issues relating to bilateral aspects and the ways to mitigate the impacts of climate change and issues of international cooperation and solidarity were shared.
