Private publications publishing government acts unauthorized way

Kathmandu, Sept 3 : Private publication houses are reportedly found publishing the government acts without permission.

The Law Books Management Committee is the government authorized body to publish the government laws and acts. As per the government rule, private publication houses shall acquire permission from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Federal Affairs if they want to print government’s major acts and laws. But privately –run publication houses are found indulged in the unauthorized publication of such documents.

The government by issuing a notice in the Nepal Gazette on 30th March, 1977 prohibits the privately run publication houses from printing its major acts and laws or their transplanted copies without permission.
According to Committee executive director, Binod Bhattarai, private publication houses are found publishing copies of such acts and laws as they are.

Joint Spokesperson for the Ministry of Law Hum Bahadur KC said no private house has so far approached it, seeking permission to print the copies of such documents including the constitution, and new Civil and Criminal Codes.

Copies of those acts and laws published by the private sector are available in the market at relatively lower prices than the prices set by the Committee, causing these publications to find the market.
